BELGRADE -- Telecommunications
Minister Jasna Matić said that Egyptian operator Orascom
Telecom has a good chance of winning the Telekom Srbija
tender.
Two months ago during a visit of
Egyptian businesspeople to Belgrade, the owner of the
company express his intentions to participate in the
tender for buying a majority share of Telekom Srbija.
Matić said that Egypt’s International Cooperation
minister told her that Orascom is interested in having a
presence on the Serbian market.
“I think that their intentions are serious. Orascom is a
serious company and we can be content that there will be
great competition in trying to buy our national
operator,” Matić said.
She reminded that Orascom officials stated that “this
time they would not allow someone else to win, like it
happened when the company participated in the tender for
the sale of Mobtel, when Telenor offered a better
price.”
Egypt has had success in developing information and
communication technologies and Orascom is an important
company with a presence in many countries, among them
Italy and Greece, Matić said.
Matić said that along with Orascom, Deutsche Telecom and
companies from Turkey and Spain are also interested in
the Telekom tender. |
