Both interlocutors tackled issue of Balkans region. President Morsy reacted positively on recent development of dialog between Belgrade and Prishtina

Prime minister Hisham Quandill introduced to his guests economic situation and challenges which face Egypt as well as development in the region, stressing historic meaning of GA UN to recognize Palestine as an observer state in UN and congratulated to Mr Jeremic for his chairmanship during that historic session. Egyptian Prime minister expressed wishes for further support of Serbia to peace efforts in Middle East and its very important voting as single country in South Eastern Europe for Palestine. In the talks were tackled further plans for development of bilateral relations between Egypt and Serbia.

During meeting of Foreign minister Mohamed Kamel Amr and Vuk Jeremic was stressed the importance Egypt attaches to activating the role of the UN General Assembly, being the supreme legislative body of the international organization, and restoring its role in keeping international peace and security, set in the Charter, despite Security Council attempts to weaken its mandate in this regard. He also expressed appreciation to the management of Mr. Jeremic to the deliberations of the General Assembly on Palestine’s obtaining the non-member state status in the Organization.

The meeting also elaborated the efforts of reforming and expanding the membership of the Security Council. Also discussed were the Egyptian efforts to holding an international conference on a Middle East free of nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction, where Amr expressed Egypt’s persistence on holding the conference and rejecting the pretexts put forward to justify not convening it, thus representing a breach of the decision of the NPT member states conference held on 2010.

SERBIAN PARLIAMENT APPROVES NEW GOVERNMENT

LED BY IVICA DAČIĆ

The cabinet of Prime Minister Ivica Dačić was elected by the Serbian parliament in Belgrade in July 27, 2012 with 142 votes in favor.
72 MPs voted against, while 26 abstained. The new ruling coalition is made up of the Serb Progressive Party (SNS), the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) and the United Regions of Serbia (URS) along with the parties that joined them in alliances forged ahead of the May 6 elections.

The new prime minister and members of his cabinet took the oath of office to the sounds of the national anthem and in the presence of a ceremonial guard.
"I pledge my loyalty to the Republic of Serbia and by my honor I pledge to respect its Constitution and laws, to perform my duties as member of the government conscientiously, responsibly and in a dedicated manner, and to be committed to keeping Kosovo and Metohija a part of the Republic of Serbia," reads the oath.

The new government has 17 ministries and four offices for Kosovo and Metohija, human and minority rights, churches and religious communities, and the Diaspora.

It has a total of 19 members, including four deputy prime ministers, and will be the smallest the country has seen this side of 1990.
Serbia's new PM and leader of the Socialists (SPS) Ivica Dačić for the past four years served as a deputy PM and interior minister in the previous government led by the Democrats (DS) who today joined the opposition.

No changes in Serbia’s foreign policy

Serbia's new Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkić said in July 29, 2012 (Tanjug) there would be no change of course in the country's foreign policy.
Mrkic explained that preservation of territorial integrity and sovereignty would remain the basis of Serbia's foreign policy, and full-fledged EU membership its priority. "The essence of our foreign policy is known to all, as are its foundations the interests of our country. Territorial integrity, sovereignty these are the foundations. We know what the pillars and the priorities are, and among these we single out, much like our predecessors, our path toward full EU accession, and we will continue in this manner," Mrkić said in an interview for Tanjug, his first since taking over the office.

According to Mrkić, major changes in foreign policy are not customary in stable democracies such as Serbia. "For the most part, we will continue with the same foreign policy. It is also clear from the statements of President Tomislav Nikolic and Prime Minister Ivica Dačić, when they spoke about foreign policy, that there is no change in course," he said.

"There will certainly be some minor modifications due to the fact we have a new president, a new parliament and a new government," Mrkić said.

Asked about his view of the current relations with Moscow and Washington and what he would insist on in the future, Mrkić said Serbia had "extremely good relations" with Russia, and wanted to further and deepen its existing solid partnership with Washington. "We are in a strategic partnership and Russia is an important partner and ally to Serbia, which helps us preserve our territorial integrity," said Mrkić.

At the same time, Belgrade will endeavor to make its relationship with the United States "as wellthought out, diverse and fruitful as possible for both sides." "We will have a better idea of ways to further our relations after we meet with U.S. officials, and we will know more specifics in the coming days and weeks," said Mrkić.

Talking about future contacts with EU officials aimed at accelerating Serbia's EU integration, Mrkić recalled that "there is intensive communication with all representatives and allies from Europe." "There will be meetings with senior officials in Brussels, the arrangements are being made and we will have communication as intensive as our predecessors did, if not more so," he added.

Vuk jeremic will assume
the presidency of the 67th session
of the UN General Assembly
ON THE 18th OF SEPTEMBER 2012

VUK JEREMIC UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT

NEW YORK, June 8 (Tanjug) –It is an extreme honour to stand before the General Assembly after becoming the president of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly, Jeremic said addressing representatives of UN member countries, his first address after winning the vote, in which he got support from 99 countries. As the first topic of the debate at the opening of the 67th session, Jeremic proposed bringing views closer and solving international disputes by peaceful means. In view of our experiences, I believe we can help implement all the harmonized proposals, especially those referring to prevention of conflicts, he noted, calling on the assembly not to forget that peace is not merely an absence of war once they start discussing that important issue in September. Jeremic stressed Serbia's commitment to preserving international peace and security, the UN's first declared goal.Government in Serbia changes by peaceful means and in accordance with the rule of law, he pointed out. Serbia is a democratic country, which has no other ambitions but to contribute to humanity's general interests, preserve its sovereignty and territorial integrity and benefit its people, Jeremic underscored.

Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic stated on June 8, 2012 that the decision of the UN General Assembly that Serbia should head this institution in the year to come reflects the trust placed in the country. Jeremic recalled that 20 years ago Serbia was a country that was excluded from the UN system, and now it will be the one heading it. "Today we are heading the UN and all eyes of the world are on us. I believe Serbia will justify the trust placed by the world and that it will act from the top position in the UN system in a way which will make our nation proud. We earned great trust, and now it is up to us to justify it," Jeremic told Tanjug in New York. Jeremic, who was elected by the majority of votes to preside the UN General Assembly for a year, pointed out that Serbia has been through a difficult period in the past several years, and encountered huge challenges. "We decided to face those challenges by using only diplomatic means. Many people doubted the way Serbia pursues its foreign policy and builds its international position, and now we see that we enjoy considerable reputation and that the world decided we should be the ones to head the UN," Jeremic said. Speaking of his future work in the UN, Jeremic said that Serbia is ahead of a year with plenty of challenges for global peace and stability, and Serbia's role will be to organize talks and diplomatic engagement in the world.
